Can I Drive on CBD?

CBD can have a lot of benefits. However, it’s common to be concerned about situations where you might need to drive after you take CBD. It’s always a good thing to be responsible when driving, so can I drive on CBD is a good question to ask! For the most part, there’s not much to be worried about when it comes to taking CBD and driving. There are a few things to keep in mind, though, so here’s what to know about driving on CBD.

THC matters

CBD doesn’t get you high, so you likely won’t experience any psychoactive effects that could impair your ability to drive. However, not all CBD formulations are made equal. Some CBD oils contain amounts of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which will make you feel high in certain amounts. Hemp products contain less than 0.3% THC and are therefore legal to have in your system while driving. If your CBD product contains higher concentrations than this amount, it can become a gray area and it’s best to avoid these if you’re worried about finding yourself in trouble.

Legality is still relatively new

In 2018, CBD became legal on the federal level. However, CBD is still a new and growing industry and there’s a lot of misinformation and misunderstandings about it. Again, CBD products that contain less than 0.3% THC are considered hemp and are legal to have in your system while driving. Unfortunately, it may take some time for local government to catch up on the distinction between hemp products and marijuana if you come under scrutiny. Because of this and despite federal legality, it can still be a risk to drive with regular doses of CBD in your system. Additionally, you should always take CBD products that clearly label the amount of THC so that you can use them responsibly.

Everyone reacts differently

Although everyone has an endocannabinoid system in their body, everyone’s is different. There are a lot of different factors that can affect your experience with CBD, especially factors like how long it lasts, how strongly it comes on, and how you feel while it’s working. These can be factors like body weight, metabolism, and the frequency and amount of your CBD consumption. Additionally, smaller doses can make you feel more awake and alert, but larger doses can make you feel relaxed and sleepy. For these reasons, it’s a good idea to experiment with the right amount for you and be honest about how comfortable you feel driving while on it.
